About the Farm

NK Farm: A Legacy of Excellence, Sustainability, and Passion in Coffee Farming
Nestled in the fertile, iron-rich soils of Kiambu, Kenya, NK Farm is a family-owned legacy that has spanned over six decades, producing exceptional coffee. Established in 1960 by my grandfather, a son of a traditional blacksmith, the farm was selected for its ideal location—land blessed with rich, iron-infused soils that provide the perfect foundation for cultivating high-quality coffee. The farm’s unique positioning, alongside the Ruiru River, with its "black stones" that lend the river its name, gives our coffee a distinct terroir that sets it apart.

The land features a dynamic change in elevation, with a 40-meter drop from the highest point to the lowest, creating an ideal microclimate for coffee cultivation. The farm slopes gently to the west, allowing our coffee trees to be bathed in sunlight, creating beans that are naturally "sun-kissed." This elevation variation, combined with the westward-facing slope, imparts unique flavors to our SL 28 coffee variety, known for its fruity and vibrant profile, which has been sought after by discerning coffee connoisseurs worldwide.

At NK Farm, we cultivate 3,200 SL 28 coffee bushes, ensuring the highest standards of care and attention to detail. Our farm also incorporates mixed farming practices, where we raise dairy cows and engage in agroforestry. The cows provide natural, organic manure that enriches the soil, contributing to the long-term sustainability of our land. Additionally, we plant a variety of trees, including Southern Silky Oak (Grevillea), avocado, and mango trees, which not only enhance the biodiversity of our farm but also offer shade and support the pollination and health of the coffee plants.

The farm's environmental stewardship is a core part of our ethos. Through agroforestry and sustainable farming practices, we are committed to preserving the balance of nature while enhancing the quality of our coffee. The presence of Grevillea trees helps with soil conservation, while the avocado and mango trees contribute to a diversified farming system that supports both ecological and economic sustainability.

Today, NK Farm has been managed by three generations of our family. My mother (Ms Lucy Wambui), aged 65, continues to play a vital role in the farm's day-to-day operations, alongside myself a 33-year-old businessman and farmer: Njoroge KiburI (NK). We continue to uphold the legacy that my grandfather began in 1960, with a deep respect for the land and a commitment to producing world-class coffee.

We invite world-class coffee buyers to experience the unique flavor profile of our SL 28 coffee, grown with care on a farm where each cup tells a story of generations of passion, innovation, and sustainability. Our coffee embodies the rich heritage of Kiambu, nurtured by the land, the sun, and the vision of those who came before us.
